North County Oral & Facial Surgery Center was founded in May 1994 by Gerald P. Unhold, D.M.D., M.D. In April 2000, North County Oral & Facial Surgery Center merged with Walter C. Johnson, D.D.S. who had been in the practice of oral surgery for 32 years in Escondido. That practice was originally established by Lorenz de Julian, D.D.S. Thus we have maintained the oldest continuing operating oral surgery practice in North San Diego County.

We are a multi-doctor oral & maxillofacial surgery practice providing evaluation and treatment of conditions that affect the teeth, soft tissue and bone of the mouth, jaws and facial regions. The specialty involves procedures that include but are not limited to extractions, dental implants, bone grafts to restore the alveolar ridge, oral and facial reconstruction and corrective jaw surgery. Intravenous sedation and general anesthesia are provided as indicated.

Our doctors are board certified or board eligible oral and maxillofacial surgeons who hold both dental and medical degrees. Our surgical staff consists of Registered Dental Assistants, Registered Nurses and Medical Assistants who have completed certification as oral surgery assistants through the California Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons. We also have an administrative staff with an extensive background in oral & maxillofacial surgery.
